It seems like so many of these lectures are about our connection to other disciplines.

How do we interact with each other? How do we facilitate a meaningful dialogue? How do we as landscape architects protect ourselves in a field full of blame?

Key findings:

  • What is sustainability?

  • It's all about balance- between goals and between professions

  • Early engagement between disciplines is key

  • Embodied carbon (CO2e)- a measurement of the total for greenhouse gases emitted, expressed in terms of the equivalent measurement of carbon dioxide; Embodied carbon is often more informative than carbon

  • Manufacturers, designers, and contractors each have methods of reducing CO2e (see notes for examples)

  • Variations in design and specification+ unpredictable performance and carbon emissions

  • “there is hardly anything is the world that some can make cheaper... when you pay too little you lose everything..”
